Developing a Policy

Think about how you have developed other effective policy. You might identify things such as the following:

  • It is important to attract stakeholders to change – how will you ensure that employees, unions, supervisors, community etc. support your activities? Do you need to provide some education to help provide a rationale? How will you negotiate the development and implementation of your policy?
  • Tailor your interventions to workplace need
  • Express your policy in simple and clear language and communicate it widely & regularly – it is important to ensure it is known & understood
  • Policy which is unknown is not likely to have influence
  • Policy which is widely known and supported will have greater influence
